 Veeda
Clinical Research is the first CRO to offer
clients a specialised renal clinical
pharmacology unit in India located in the
Muljibhai Patel Urological Hospital (MPUH).
MPHU is located approximately 40kms from
Ahmedabad, the location of Veeda CR’s 116
bedded clinical pharmacology unit. MPHU is a
premier institution providing health
services in Urology and Nephrology including
kidney transplantation and postgraduate
education centre for DNB.
The new renal unit is
dedicated to conducting phase I/IIa studies
in renal impaired patients. Veeda CR can
also carry out clinical trials related to
urology such as Carcinoma of the Prostate,
Bladder, simple urinary dysfunction and
Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy. Studies such
as these can be conducted with the comfort
that should the trial necessitate admission
to the Hospital ward, the unit is
immediately adjacent to the intensive care
unit. |
The
new Renal Unit has six fully monitored beds
and all the supporting facilities necessary
for the conduct of clinical trials in this
special population. Veeda CR also has access
to the experienced manpower of the hospital
and its facilities such as a Kidney Dialysis
unit, Pathology Laboratory and radiology
department. The MPUH Hospital performs many
hundreds of renal biopsies and related
procedures annually and approaching 200
renal transplants per annum. 2-3 new cases
of renal failure are referred to its clinics
daily.
The
most frequent cause of renal failure in
India is diabetic-related kidney damage.
Thus, this unit has unique access not only
to this population but also to patients with
diabetic neurological disease and
retinopathy. Additionally, Veeda has access
to all the essential facilities necessary to
support complex trials including a 3.0T MRI
scanner with functional MRI capability and
PET-CT. This, combined with Veeda’s
pre-eminence in the field of biomarkers
means that many cutting-edge experimental
medicine trials can be undertaken.
