Born in the Channel Islands, Maurice Cross graduated in Medicine from Aberdeen University in 1972 and began a career
in academic medicine as a Medical
Research Council Junior Research Fellow
at Northwick Park Hospital. After
a training period in Cardiology he
entered the Offshore Oil Industry
as physician to COMEX diving, focussing
on the physiological aspects of putting
man under the sea at increasing depth.
This start sealed his career as an
experimental physician/pharmacologist
and, after a second period as an academic
at Newcastle University, he founded
Phase I Clinical Trials Unit
in 1987 in Plymouth.
Since then, Maurice has been associated
with Phase I Clinical Trials Unit
Ltd. and more recently with Phase
Solutions (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. All
organisations focus on the problems
of early drug development either from
a basic science or early clinical
perspective. Recently he led Phase
I Clinical Trials Unit Ltd. into a
merger with an Indian CRO and
continues to influence the Veeda
Clinical Research Group in his
role as Director. |
