Mumbai
which was formerly known as Bombay is
situated on India’s West coast, along with
the Arabian Sea. It is the capital of state
Maharashtra. The name Mumbai is
etymologically derived form MUMBA or MAHA
AMBA which is the name of Hindu goddess and
AAI means mother in Marathi. The former name
BOMBAY was given by the Portuguese in 16
century which means ‘good bay’.
Mumbai
lies at the mouth of the Ulhas River off the
western coast of India. Mumbai is 603 km2
(233 sq mi) and the capital plays an
important role in the economy of the country
by providing 10% of all factory employment,
40% of income tax, 40% of foreign trade and
60% of custom duty.
Mumbai is home to the Hindi film industry
Bollywood, which is one of the largest film
producing industries of the world. But above
all within India Mumbai is considered the
city of opportunities.
