The risk of a drug-drug
interaction depends on the number of drugs
used, the tendency of particular drugs to
interact, and the amount of drug taken.
Types of drug-drug
interactions include duplication, opposition
(antagonism), and alteration of what the
body does to one or both drugs.
Herbal supplements
should also be considered under drug-drug
interactions. Caution should be exercised
if planning studies in the following areas
that volunteers are not taking herbal supplements
as remedies or for prophylaxis:
Blood pressure medications
Blood thinners (anticoagulants, anti-platelet
agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or
naproxen)
