Drugs interactions |
| |
The risk of a drug-drug
interaction depends on the number of drugs
used, the tendency of particular drugs to
interact, and the amount of drug taken. |
| |
Types of drug-drug
interactions include duplication, opposition
(antagonism), and alteration of what the
body does to one or both drugs. |
| |
Herbal supplements
should also be considered under drug-drug
interactions. Caution should be exercised
if planning studies in the following areas
that volunteers are not taking herbal supplements
as remedies or for prophylaxis: |
| |
|
Blood pressure medications |
|
Blood thinners (anticoagulants, anti-platelet
agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen or
naproxen) |
|
Diabetes medications |
|
Drugs that affect the liver |
|
Heart medications |
|
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
